Microstepping driver with up to 3.5A/phase and 46Vdc.
This is a bipolar, constant-current driver for all bipolar and unipolar motors with 4-, 6- and 8-wires.
The phase current is switch-selectable in 8 distinctive levels of 0.3A, starting from 1.3A and ending at 3.5A. This means that the smallest motor could be 1.3A/phase in unipolar connection and the biggest motor could be 4.9A/phase in bipolar-series connection.
The step mode is also switch selectable from half-step up to 125th-step mode. There is 15 distinctive step modes available.
Another useful feature is an idle current limiting circuitry, which when activated (SW4-OFF) will reduce the motor current about 40% after 1 second since last step pulse. This feature limits drastically the heat dissipated in the driver and motor.
Very convenient power connection accepts both AC and DC power supplies. For AC source, the voltage should be in range from 10 to 30Vac. In case of DC source, the voltage should be from 15Vdc to 46Vdc. However, using a simple bridge/capacitor DC power supply, maximum allowed voltage is 31Vdc. Only for stabilized DC power supply the maximum of 46Vdc is allowed.
All three inputs: STEP, DIRECTION and ENABLE are opto-isolated and can be driven from 5V logic. The +5V for opto-isolators must be provided externally. In case, the +5V is used for opto-isolators, there is no need for additional series resistors. When more than +5V (up to +24V) is used, the series, current-limiting resistors are necessary (see data sheet).
The driver is fully enclosed and mounted on large heat sink. In most applications there will be no need for an external cooling fan. In some application an extra forced air circulation may be advised.
